For this edition of the Recruiter’s Corner, we thought we’d share some good news about the state of the market for Java professionals worldwide. jsync has already shown a dedication to Java technologies and we know you have as well. Job security is important to almost everyone these days, so it is good to know that as a Java professional in this area you are in good company.
- Hiring Companies are Looking for You! Monster.com listed the “Top 100 Keywords” searched by hiring managers searching for resumes on Monster in 2004. The word “Java” was ranked #20, and was the first technical term on the list. “J2EE” ranked 47th, and even “WebSphere” made the list at 89th. To put that into perspective, “.Net” came in at 39th and “C#” at 58th.
- We Are Not Alone… There have been an estimated 110 million downloads of J2SE since 1998. As of April 2004 there were 4 million downloads of J2EE SDK.
- Four Million Java Developers Can’t Be Wrong There are an estimated 4 million Java developers and 550 Java User Groups worldwide (from Scott McNealy’s keynote at JavaOne 2004).
- “Cha-Ching!” Several studies and surveys have reported that Java professionals receive higher salaries and are more in demand than other technology pros, and technology professionals in the northeast are consistently paid more than in other US geographies.
- Everybody’s Doing It According to Gartner, 80% of all enterprises use the Java language and BZ Research reports that 55% of enterprises have deployed production systems on J2EE.
