The jsync Process

05/09/2006

by Dave Fecak

Having worked with thousands of local technology professionals seeking new employment, we know it is important for candidates (like you) to fully understand our process and services so you know what to expect during your job search with us. We also realize that our process can differ from other recruiting and consulting firms, as most of our competitors tend to be generalists and not focused on a particular technology or geography. Here is an overview or our process, our services, and a timeline of what to expect while working with us. Keep in mind – our services are FREE to candidates!

1. Consultation – shortly after learning of your desire to explore the market for new opportunities, we will schedule you for a profile, which is essentially an ‘initial consultation’. Our main goal during this conversation is to develop a profile of you, which will include a variety of information that is specific to your search. The profile will include your objective, an inventory of your skils with Java and related technologies, your compensation history, and other criteria for your search (commute, benefits, etc.). We also may offer some suggestions to improve your resume during this consultation. Once the profile is completed, we should have a much better understanding of your interests and qualifications.

2. Fit analysis – after developing your profile, we typically will have one or more opportunities that we feel that you are qualified for and will interest you based on your search criteria. Our goal is to never waste the time of our candidates or our clients, so we do our best to only mention positions that we feel are a match for both you and our client. Our mentality is to save time, not to throw resumes at our clients to ‘see what sticks’ – and we fully expect that over 75% of submittals will result in an interview. Most of our candidates appreciate this strategy, as it tends to prevent wasted interviews. Once we discuss an opportunity with you, it is your choice whether to pursue it, and we will only send resumes to clients with your permission.

If we don’t have a current opportunity for you, we often will have some clients or contacts that have historically had a need for someone with your background. One of the most notable differences between jsync and other recruiting firms is our network of contacts, which gives us the ability to market your services to a wide range of companies that tend to fly under the radar and are not well known by generalist recruiting firms.

3. Coordination/Preparation – once an interview is requested by a client, we will contact you and the client representatives to coordinate interview times. Once the interview is scheduled, we will pass on all the basic information (driving directions, instructions) as well as any additional tips that will help you prepare to be successful in the interview. We typically have information on the interview format, what type of technical questions to expect, and any pitfalls that most candidates fall into with that client.

4. Debrief/Negotiation – after the interview we will touch base with you and the client to get feedback on the interest level of both parties. If there is mutual interest, we will discuss compensation and benefits with you to get the best package from our client. We will typically act as a career coach to let you know whether we feel the offer is fair based on the market for your skills. As you may already know, 100% of our fees are paid by the client and are based on your salary, so it is in our best interest to maximize your compensation.

5. Final steps – once an offer is made an accepted, we will coordinate start dates and review the offer package to make sure everything is consistent. Many times we have helped our candidates to create a resignation letter and prepare for the transistion to their new employer.

Our goals are simple:

- to save you time during your job search

- to get you the best opportunity and compensation package possible

- to treat all of our candidates and clients ethically and professionally

- to be your first contact when you decide to test the waters
