Tech Tips from September 2008 Newsletter

- Google has had a pretty interesting month. They released GWT 1.5, showed us their new browser Chrome (only for Windows so far?), and celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their founding in a garage in Menlo Park, CA. ZDNet in Australia claimed nearly 4% of their visitors are using Chrome already, apparently ditching IE or Firefox 2. The browser game could get very interesting. What should we expect from Google in the next 10 years as they transition from search to software? eWeek has some theories.
- JDJ published a very interesting article recommended to us about ‘staying relevant’ as a Java professional. The topics in this article probably relate to the majority of Java pros at any level.
- An interesting new article from Sun, RESTful Web Services and Comet. Good code examples as well.
- Filed under the ‘OK, but was it really worth a press release?’ tab, SpringSource announced that Spring has surpassed EJB as a search term for job sites, based on Indeed.com statistics. It can’t be denied that Spring has gained popularity in the marketplace and heavy adoption among local development shops. Maybe they just wanted a second press release for August, typically a slow month.
